Congrats! Tokyo is a crazy, cool, weird, small place. The best advice (from somebody who's only been there once) is to just go for it. If you're curious about something, try it, ask about it, see what's up. There's definitely some cultural weirdness, but if you're polite, honest curiosity goes a long way.

Someone once told me that New Orleans was great because it was the closest a US person could come to a foreign experience without leaving the US (they were right). Japan was the closest I've come to visiting an alien world without leaving Earth. It was amazing. Japan, for a US person, is pure awesome. I lucked out and got to go twice on the (former) company dime. If you can find a way to get a few personal days to extend the trip, do it. Even if the cost is eye-watering.
